9-11 achieved its goal

i will not condone the acts of 9-11 in any way, shape or form. I know that they were an act of terrible inhumanity that I can hardly come to terms with, and nooone calling themselves human (or humane) could think different. But that is not to say they achieved nothing. It achieved 2 things, one benefiting the US and the other benefiting the middle east. Al Quaeda (along with the rest of the middle east) has long known that injustices and wars there go unreported in the western world, where much of these factors stem from. Beyond reaching out to attack "the enemy on his home turf", the attacks were to bring the media focus onto the area, bring the plight of millions to the forefront. Previous attacks on commercial, then diplomatic infrastructure overseas brought little media coverage, so an escalation was probably inevitable. The unexpected benefit to the US was that the attack supplied the motive required to begin the long planned removal of saddam hussein, and to pass control of the country by friendly forces. To the uninitiated, this sounds impossible and farcical, because it suggests a terrible mercinary attitude towards US interests. I can only agree with that (for that is what i also thought!). I only hope that you will research the subject in order to prove me wrong (as i tried to do) and discover some facts for yourselves. There are some terrible truths out there that make for unconfortable reading, so i would also only advise looking if you are prepared to have your world view changed. I did say that 9-11 achieved its goal... I believe its goal was to make us aware, and to make us think. In that respect, it worked for me.
