Bosnia's war of memory

A decade after the Bosnian war began, both the mourning and the rebuilding continue. Even as bullets are turned into biros, the wounds of Sarajevo and Srebrenica are a long way from healing. In Bosnia, it is not only the present that is unsettled, but also the past.On a jut of land above the town of Srebrenica, fourteen men are working on a building site. Not much goes on in this secluded part of eastern Bosnia, where just scratching out an existence is an exhausting task, so this level of activity is noticeable in itself. The men are working on rebuilding the town’s White Mosque. It was destroyed during the war, along with three other mosques and most of the rest of the town.
