Fred Pearce is an environment consultant and leading contributor to New Scientist magazine. He is also a freelance writer on environmental, developmental and demographic issues and has reported from fifty-four countries over the past fifteen years. An avid environmentalist, Pearce is the author of Deep Jungle (2005), Keepers of the Spring (2004) and the forthcoming When the Rivers Run Dry.
