Tom Moerenhout is an independent consultant providing legal and policy advice to the International Institute for Sustainable Development, Geneva, Switzerland. Trained at the Graduate Institute of International and Development studies, he holds expertise in international trade law, subsidies and EU external policies. In the past, he has evaluated EU emergency programs on energy and water access in Israel and the occupied Palestinian Territory, and has advised civil society organizations on the position of international humanitarian and human rights law in WTO law.

Withholding trade with Israeli settlements is an obligation under international law

In James Crawford's opinion, the duty of non-recognition of illegal settlement activity does not mandate states to withhold from trading with them. In my opinion, this is incorrect.
