The simple fact that Chavez has broken the hegemony of the ruling class bodes well for the future, so long as Chavez himself believes in democracy. His record is not as bad as North American media make out, but his international antics and lack of economic development will eventually end his career. At that point there is a chance that the democratic pendulum will land more to the centre.
