i know it isn't working here yet - but it is working for comments under articles big/small is meant to make the font size proportional to the average vote in big/small scale; dull/bright makes posts contrast relative to the average vote on this we thought 2 dimensions would make for interesting signaling - slashdot does many more dimensions, but is a bit cumbersome to fill out. it is possible - but not necessary - that big/small might map onto "generous vs. small-minded", while "dull/bright" is a general level of interest scale. it seems quite possible for a post to be generous but not particularly interesting. the community can help to signal this by voting it "big, dull" -- as an example. let's see if it works. i'm slight;y tempted to make "small" go much smaller than currently allowed ... but let's see!

I prefer a linear thread over indented. Is dull/bright and small/big not two sides of the same coin? Why dual ratings? If you are keeping them you should add some explanation of how to use them appropriately. In Safari the boxes seem to land with the body text of the post, which is a bit weird.

I prefer the linear style thread. Indented is fine, until more than three or four people have replied and you find yourself writing posts about two inches across. The current style seems quite disjointed. I liked the flow of the old one, with only a slight break between each comment. It made it quite easy to read through long threads and gave the whole thing a sense of coherence. The all white background also seems... too much? It might just be that I need time to adjust. Testing url - I still can't get this to work without the URL of this page attaching to it, even though it doesn't appear in the code.

thx, everyone, for the feedback we're working on the long list of things that aren't quite right, and we'll get to these too ... i'm quite interested in your views on other features - like how about having "indented" threads, as they do here ... (if the address tag will work :) ... example of indented forum posts

I like the new set-up. html tags should be fun to figure out. I noticed that everyones post count is significantly lower. I hope that stays the same for me. Almost the day before the site changed I had been thinking about how two thirds of what I have written here is bs, and then whaddya know: 2/3 is gone. thank-you opendemocracy gods ;-)

The large title between each post is a bit annoying, breaking up the flow of the thread. The "dull/bright" box things also feel a little in the way. They sound like a nice idea, but I think something more discrete would be better. Tried a full post with formating. It did NOT work as advertised. Set a bit from an article to be in intalics. That did not take. Later set one word to be bold/underlined. Got bold but no underline, and then everything from that point on was bold. NOT GOOD! Ahh Well Was there any notification on this. Recently the 'Fray' forum on Slate underwent a recasting, but that was promoted extensively, and its introduction trumpeted. For myself, I found no particular problem with things as they were.

It all seems to be working for me. Except for the "dull/bright" thing, which still does nothing. I quite like the new quote bit:

Saves me having to decide between using italics or bold as I used to. Not sure about the general layout though. That might just be because it's so different from the old one.
