Interesting thread and good tips on the subject of the occult and how to get psychological protection for peoples malicious intentions. This is excellent information and a good guide for all people: Muslim or non-Muslim. Interestingly if non Muslims would know this information and apply some of the principles they would be far better off than dealing with abstract 'abra-cadabra' nonsense. Thanks zawa-je!

I also think we need to clarify what magic is. Magic in the Abrahamic tradition usually deals with the unseen such as the Jinn. It is indeed considered haram to put any faith into some charlatan sooth-sayer(who says she has contact with the Jinn) who informs her that you'll end up having 4 kids in 6 years or some other rubbish. Unfortunately this ridiculous practice quite common in Morocco actually.

Other than that, what is magic anyway besides mumbling abra-cadabra and juggling some balls? People have the ability to alter natural laws of physicals about as much as a goldfish have the ability to travel to the moon. Furthermore I cant help but find the blatant contradiction in people believing in magic that uses supernatural or "divine" powers, then if you ask if they believe in God, they say no. Ha! If someone believes in 'abra-cadabra' why not believe in a creator: God or Allah? I think I know why. People would rather fuel their ego and try to alter other peoples lives with 'abra-cadabra' nonsense than accept the concept that they have been created by a supreme being called Allah and their objective is to pray to the lord of the Worlds.

ISLAM AND MAGIC,

Magic is an old human practice. It is sometimes defined as deception by showing something to an audience, which is contrary to reality. In Islam this is part of magic, which is, however, defined as seeking the help of demons to perform something harmful against somebody.
In the light of the above definition, Islam considers magic to be an act of blasphemy. Thus, the Holy Quran say:

"Suleiman (Solomon) did not disbelieve, but the devils disbelieved teaching men magic" (2:102)
In an authentic saying, the Prophet of Islam p.b.u.h. said: Whoever goes to a fortune teller (a soothe sayer) or a diviner and believes him, has, in fact, disbelieved in what has been revealed to Muhammad.
