where in god's name did you find sources that say Lenin's coup cost 60 million lives? Pinochet's coup cost even more lives than Lenin's coup, which was bloodless!!!! maybe you are referring to the entire number lives lost in the soviet union because not even Stalin's victims can surpass 40 million.
regardlessly you can't justify Pinochet's acts just because another bygone irrelevant dictator killed more people.
And lastly, within the western hemisphere, military regimes have far surpassed the brutality of communist regimes. go look up Rios Montt or Pinochet and compare them to Fidel Castro.

Whose talking.

The general context of XXth century world politics authorized Pinochet and his supporters to fear the worst and act preemptively.

Had general Kornilov succeeded, Russia, East Europe, China, Cambodia, Cuba, might have been spared unprecedented malice.

One trusts history will be kind to Pinochet as it will be kind to Jaruzelski

Is your coconut cracked?

"When the choice is Pinochet or Stalin, Pinochet is the lesser evil". Of course.

But that was not the choice.

Human lives matter more to human beings than definitions of concepts, and a regime that murders 60,000,000 people is incomparably worst than a regime that destroys 3,000.

The question is not between Pinochet or Stalin. The victims and horrors of each regime are undeniable and not comparable as numbers. What is important is to keep in mind that it is not the number of victims what makes a regime totalitarian, rather its pretension to be the only and truthful path that need to be obey and follow by all citizens. That conviction leads to the elimination of all those who disagree with the regime, and it is precisely that conviction what transform a regime in totalitarian. That conviction characterised Pinochets dictatorship, as well as Stalin, and many others even nowadays.

The insanely huge difference in the number of victims of military coup d'etats and of communist revolutions, suffices to discredit the contention that totalitarianism is as repressive as military dixtatorship. Totalitarian tyranny is sixty million times more repressive than military dictatorship.

When the choice is Pinochet or Stalin, Pinochet is the lesser evil.

The notion that the several thousand victims of Augusto Pinochet's vile regime (made possible, of course, with U.S. financial backing) can be justified by reference to the victims of equally repressive regimes elsewhere, is somewhat perverse.

Victims of Pinochet's coup d'Etat are estimated at 3,000 or so people.

Victims of Lenin's Revolution are estimated at 60,000,000 or so people.

To pick on Pinochet, without even so much as lip service to the unprecedently pathological horrors that have occured in communist regimes, discredits Pinochet's enemies.

The experience of dictatorship in Chile between 1973 and 1990 must be recalled in order to understand why the restoration of democracy has been so difficult, says Carlos Huneeus. Read the rest of this post...
