 <description>This is a lovely review of a film I think is simply stunning.  I&#039;ve seen it twice and it was equally powerful the 2nd time around.  The moments when the characters fail to communicate were wrenching, and the rare moments when they managed to speak directly to one another&#039;s hearts were searingly beautiful.  This is a rare and wonderful film, albeit one for grown-ups who are willing to do a little work in exchange for a chance to learn something profound about being human.</description>

 <description>Thanks for this excellent and insightful review of this harrowing and poignant film - and for picking up that the gun was the connecting thread (an added irony is that Chieko&#039;s mother had committed suicide by shooting herself, not by throwing herself off the balcony as Chieko tells the police officer).</description>
