In the ten years since &lt;a href=&quot;http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m2633/is_4_14/ai_64564017&quot;&gt;the financial crash of 1998&lt;/a&gt;, Russia&amp;#39;s position in the world has grown substantially stronger. By the mid-2000&amp;#39;s, favourable conditions on the energy market and the Russian government&amp;#39;s intelligent macroeconomic policy combined to give the Kremlin a position of power it had not enjoyed since the mid-1980&amp;#39;s. Russia has used this position to reassert itself as a great power on the international stage- an autonomous centre of power and influence. Its present leaders have impressive ambitions.
