By the mid-2000&#39;s, favourable conditions on the energy market and the Russian government&#39;s intelligent macroeconomic policy combined to give the Kremlin a position of power it had not enjoyed since the mid-1980&#39;s. Russia has used this position to reassert itself as a great power on the international stage- an autonomous centre of power and influence.
