Cultural Identity=Religious identity??Posts: Joined: 2005-11-07
In the post Sept. 11 era, the biggest mistake made by the Western world is the indirect association of politics with religion. For centuries Europe has thrived in the notion of maintaining cultural identity, yet associating that same identity with the notion of Christianity. In the supposed "fight against terrorism", Europe has to be careful not to confuse the two. Whether it is in the case of Turkey entering into the EU, or current actions taken to control Muslim "fundamentalism" in Europe, over the past couple of years, the notion of "racism" against Muslims has inhibited the minds and actions of Europeans. One needs to pause and think of the future consequences such course of action can have to the continent's democratic and socialist values...
