There is a wide spread notion that the Internet helps us connect with people from around the globe and that we have the chance to get to know the opinions of people who have a different cultural and social experience. But is this notion really accurate? Have you wandered how many people do not wear shoes every day? My guess is: about 70% of the world's population. A billion perhaps do not wear shoes at all.It would be interesting to find out how many people, who do not wear shoes every day, have the ability and possibility to get on the Internet. Perhaps we connect with people who live in different parts of the world, but do we really connect with the opinions of those who have different social life styles, if we can't get in touch with the thoughts of those who do not wear shoes every day. I would love some day to be able to get on the Internet, talk to a native in Borneo, and ask questions about flowers, cooking, mythology, family traditions, and everything else that human beings have in common. I guess, for now, the Internet is an expansion of a common technological potential among people in different geographical parts of the world who share similar life styles. The day when humanity would come together via the Internet would be the day when we all take our shoes off and walk bare feet under the sky with Internet gadgets in our pockets.
