The economy not the only reason....

 http://abclocal.go.com/wtvg/story?section=news/local&id=5023385
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The number of Ohioans receiving food stamps increased by 71 percent over six years, a sure indicator of a poor economy but also a measure of decreased stigma over the help, the Department of Job and Family Services reported.

"Food stamps" has become a misnomer, now that the aid comes in the form of a debit card that's not easily recognizable at a checkout line. The use of food stamps increased from 614,000 people in 2000 to about 1.1 million in 2006, a jump state officials also attribute to a larger population and better promotion of the program.
Just thought we should keep this in perspective.  It's easy to blame the economy, but population growth, advertising, and reduced social stigma by using debit cards are significant factors in the increased use of "food stamps."

Mike,

I will admit that the dollar does not go as far as it once did.
Am I headed for bankruptcy? Nope.  Not yet anyway.  Does it
suck that gas costs as much as it does? Yep.  Might have to cut
back the number of weekends I drive 250 miles to go camping this
summer.  Is a weakened dollar the end of the world?
Shucks no.  It just makes exports of American goods more enticing
to the outside world.  Heck, people have been whining about the
trade deficit for years.  A weakened dollar lets everyone afford
the luxury goods produced by America. Goods the rest of the world
coveted, but could not afford.  It boosts employment here.
It encourages foreign investments in America.  It increases the
value of my collection of fine vintage Ports.  Unfortunately, it
has made me cut back a bit on my gun purchases.  I only bought
three new guns last year.

Agreed...not the end of the world

Alan,

You make some good points.  Like many, I cut my gas usage and now ride my motorcycle to and from work whenever weather permits.  Roger has a tendancy to thow out a barrage of news stories that take as a whole, suggest the end of Western Civilization.  When dissected, it's never the dire picture it first appears.  This too shall pass.

Disasters "R" Us

Solve;

You must be getting automatic posts from Disasters 'R' Us. Before you tout them, do a little research.

You are the guy who tried to post the California campsite video which claimed homeowners were being foreclosed and forced to live in a Hooverville. I told you that was a misrepresentation also. This is another one.

T,   You missed one of

T,

You missed one of Solve's posts yesterday.  He didn't keep the post up very long before he deleted it.  I was typing a response, but by the time I hit "Post comment" he took it down, so my response wouldn't work.  The story he posted was a prediction, from one of his long lin of hacks, that the US was going to conduct limited airstricks agains Iran on April 6th.  Problem was, his source was a story written last year.  Obviously, since an attack did not take place last year, his posting was utterly refuted the minute he posted it.  Damn, I was gonna have fun with that.
