Wow

Dude, all religions have their fundamentalists and extremists. Doesn't just go for religions either really.

Mebbe we've missed something...

Are you trying to point this out to someone in particular? I just figured if you were going to state the obvious, I might as well help ;-)

where's the equivalence?

Joe,

BigC is trying to draw an equivalence where one does not exist. he's sheepishly insinuating that all religious extremes are equally evil, and that just isn't the case.

The example article posted is clearly a group of delusional old testament followers with morally reprehensible practices, including impregnating minors and polygamy, but notice that they do everything in their poser to not to foist their superstitions on the wider public as some do, nor do they resort to terror tactics to influence wider societal values (that we know of anyway).

I believe that BigC is still in the camp that believes that terrorism and extremism in the world have roots in unequal power relations rather than in fanatical religious ideology... regardless of the fact that the fanatics themselves repeatedly state that that is the case.

Not sheepish...

It's not a sheepish insinuation at all. And it just is the case. Does Brendan believe that the long history of Christian persecution of the Jews just didn't happen? Or perhaps he believes that the Nazis recruited thousands of non-christians (from where exactly?) to run the extermination camps
