The prime concern of the European leaders is not Europe, but their own countries. Given difficult enough circumstances that disparity will cause major disagreements in the EU. Cultural differences and mistrust between countries with a history of conflict exacerbate the problem. If the problems are big enough, the EU will disintegrate.

I had to teach Mike recently what the EU is and got bashed by Owly for that. Suddenly I found myself defending the EU which is not an ordinary experience for me.
