Nepal and India have a long established cultural relation. Both countries are so close that they share not only a common history, script, calendar year, trade potentiality and Open border but also common social problems like Poverty, Mal nutrition and terrorism. Recently an anti-Indian sentiment has grown among Nepalese about Indian continuous involvement in the internal matters of Nepal polity, economy and border disputes.
A bird eye view of the articles and groups in social networking sites or on the speeches of the political leaders gives ample evidence to this. The Nepalese youth who regularly are in contact with external world, either through internet or study, posts articles against India involvement in the South Asia Politics. The most pressing issue that has surfaced is Border disputes and unequal treaties between India and Nepal. Most of the Student and youth organizations in Nepal are supported by other civil society organizations when it comes to India's policy to Nepal. It is believed that Nepal and India have border dispute in around 54 points in the 1700 km or so open border. As the world recognizes India as Shining, its shining has casts shadows in its small northern neighbor.
There is a growing dissatisfaction among youth about the way that Nepali leaders are seen to search the solutions of their problems, be it among themselves or between Nepal and India, in the Indian soil. Just for instance, Most of the Nepali Politicians have said that Nepal India Treaty should be revoked or atleast revised but that has been limited only in speeches. Immediately after taking Oath of the Prime Minister, all leaders think of making a visit to India. This has caused a general dissatisfaction among nepalese people. There is no dearth of articles and views/ opinions about the need to change the unequal relations between Nepal and India but a clear way out are highlighted neither by politicians nor by intellectuals.
A way out could be working to advocate for making Nepali Issue get India's attention. Every small Indian issues gets good space in the nepali news but nepali issue seldom get attention in the Indian News neither in print or web media. While nepali news are filled with relation with India, India newspaper seldom highlight news about visiting nepali delegation to India. With this reality, hoping to achieve a just and equal relation with India is a far cry. We can only shout slogan against India to make our democracy functioning weak and invite more troubles into the already troubled Nepali state.
Instead the focus should shift to making Indian people aware about the long border and other disputes so that people will themselves make Nepal- India a worthwhile issue to dealt with at the Indian parliament. Never has the border dispute between the two countries got attention in the Indian Parliament or in the state parliament of neighboring states of India with Nepal. Rather then having a friendly gesture visit to India, the politicians should make visit to the political parties in the opposition at the state and the national level in India. Only when these issues get enough public attention will Indian politician try to merge a deal with their nepali counterparts. Until then Nepalese will continue protesting against India and weaken the democratic Institution that they fought so hard to establish.
