Berlusconi is taking over the European mediamarket

In the media I read that Berlusconi's company mediaset has taken over the dutch media concern of Endemol.
Do we have to worry in Europe?

The victory of Berlusconi has nothing to do with the 'exotic' nature of Italians, or with political left or right but everything with mediaconcentrations that can fall in the wrong hands.

The Evolution of Evil

Perhaps a global political apocalypse has already arrived.

Activists and dissidents should understand that evil forces and tyrannical governments have evolved. Just as human knowledge and science expand, so do the strategies and instruments used by rulers, elites and plutocrats. By learning from history and using new technology they have smarter tools of tyranny. The best ones prevent uprisings, revolutions and political reforms. Rather than violently destroy rebellious movements, they let them survive as marginalized and ineffective efforts that divert and sap the energy of nonconformist and rebellious thinkers. Real revolution remains an energy-draining dream, as evil forces thrive.

Guerrilla’s Merger into Army? : Unfortunate!

Guerrilla’s Merger into Army? : Unfortunate! Krishna Hari Pushkar Berlin, Germany In Nepal, there is ongoing blackjack discussion about the “Integration of Maoist Rebellion Guerrillas into Nepal Army” and most probably it will be amalgamated, this situation emerged due to State is under the control of Insurgents. I have personally criticised the model and way of peace accord since beginning because of its poor feasibility, now it’s hindering to go forward on agreed peace road map. State is compelled to make one after other frequent amendments as per Maoist will and strategy. I would say, “State lost dignity” in the case. However, I am not against the peace process, my concern is only technical part of peace process that drastically failed and now state anguishes with severe crisis.

PAKISTAN --KEY ENEMY -- WAR ON TERROR!!!!!!

Now... there is turmoil and unrest BUT also some organization in PAKISTAN despite what many may believe!! We must remember Pakistan is wedged between Afghanistan and Iraq and other nearby countries who sponsor terrror and has been no friend at all with INDIA for years!! Yes..President Pervez Musharraf has declared a state of emergency and has suspended the constitution for a while but this has probably been well thought out...... The last thing Musharraf needs now is suicide bombers making inroads in Pakistan to promote terrorism!! President Musharraf has greatly assisted the West in the WAR ON TERROR and he and his regime what anyone thinks, has greatly assisted not just the U.S. but other countries targeted for terrorist attacks and their intelligence agencies such as the C.I.A.-F.B.I. British intelligence and even RUSSIAN intelligence to apprehend top

Is Islam Undemocratic?

Modernity has given us a de-divinized public order. It has suppressed the truth of the Soul for the harmony of the City. It has reduced the mandate of Divine Vicegerency to a commitment to civil morality. Our civilization no longer represents any cosmic truth, it partakes of no transcendent order of being and recognizes no human purpose beyond existence. Indeed, by redefining the End (eschation/Akhira) as an immanent order of society, modernity has abolished quest for transcendence from public order altogether. In place of the bliss of the soul, it offers peace in the city, and for the mystery of the Here-after, it substitutes the promise of the Here-now.

Ahmadinejad: Threat to world peace or just another nut-job in a bad suit?

There have been ample arguments made here, many by myself, that have argued why Iranian President Ahmadinejad is not the danger you perceive him to be. I have yet to see a credible argument by you, or anyone else here, that shows otherwise.
Your assertion (correct me if I'm wrong) is that Ahmadinejad does not have the power in the Iranian government to be a threat, right? Do you extrapolate from that conclusion that Iran is therefore not a threat? Ahmadinejad is the talking head for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader, whose role combines civil and religious authority. He pulls Ahmadinejad's strings and makes him dance. It is the ruling religious elite whose ideology comes from the President's mouth.

Terrorism with WMD is a NEW THREAT

Those who choose to stick their heads in the sand do favors for no one. Confronting the root causes of radical Islamic terror should be the top priority of the civilized world. Democracy is an important first step toward defusing this long term threat.

Are Civilians Valid Targets in A Democracy

In a democracy, does the electorate share responsibility for the actions of its government? Does this responsibility still exist with nations that masquerade as democracies? If the electorate does share responsibility, are they valid targets for military action? Why? Or why not? Regards, Tim Haughton

Could democracy be the ultimate antidote to terrorism?

Possibly, but you need to define democracy and terrorism. Lets take the US regimes definition of terrorism "..activities that involve violent... ... that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State and... appear to be intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and ......(C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States......(C) occur primarily outside the territorial jurisdiction of the United States..."

Terrorism, Fundamental Islam, and Darwinian Evolution

From http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-P81pQcU1dLBbHgtjQjxG_Q--?cq=1 Originally: Sep 30, 2001 Dov in biologicalEvolution In spite of all assertions and explanations by its members, Islamic culture cannot and will not accept Western values, ethics, attitudes and Western social-political standards and practices. These are plainly and clearly competitive evolutionary threats to the survival of fundamental Islamic faith and culture, to the whole-hearted devotion to it. Western culture thus invokes Islamic terrorism, to counter this offensive threat to its survival and to its proliferation.

Solidarity With Mumbaikars

In the BBC "Have Your Say" forum, I think, a comment with particular poignancy comes from a Bombay resident named Salman Khan. He wrote: "... Although, the USA has seen terrorist activities primarily since 9/11, India has long born the brunt of terrorism. These blasts would only put India more prominently on the map of the victims of terror. In a way 9/11 made the world sit up straight and take terrorism more seriously. This is a nuisance which we will have to learn to live with and deal with for probably a very long time to come. It is nearly impossible to prevent a suicide bomber hell bent on going into the middle of a crowd and blowing him/her-self up.

Unfair Assessment

I've had problems with the idea of "anticipatory self-defense", or "pre-emptive" war, etc., but I think Dershowitz's book was unfairly reviewed. Why the immediate link to the Nazis? Is it possible to ground preventive war in the same canon with the horrors of the third reich? If so, what is being said here, that we're acting like Nazis? I'm sick of these sorts of libelous comparisons.

China State Security Ministry is certainly a terrorism organization

China State Security Ministry has made all efforts to develop poisons to kill people and to torture people and to develop remote control methods to torture people in order to defeat western countries and to realize communism in the world. Al-Queda has no facilities and opportunities to develop poisons but China State Security Ministry has. Chinese Government supports the terrorism behaviors of China State Security Ministry. For example, without the support of senior Chinese Leaders, China State Security Ministry would not have had the chances to poison Former Russian President Yeltin and Former American President Clinton.

Lies, leaders, serotonin and death squads

I wonder how many have noticed a couple of events recently? The Manchester Guardian weekly April 21 -27 has on page 2 printed ; ‘The White house has conceded for the first time that when George Bush claimed to have found Iraqi weapons of mass destruction it was based on intelligence known in Washington to be false. The supposed “biological warfare labs” captured in Iraq had already been investigated and cleared by the US and British weapons experts‘. It is there, mind you in small print and not the front page as in 2003 times, but enough to tell the electorate that their great leaders lied and by association the ’willing’ as well. One would think some sort of reaction would result but no just continued enjoyment by the democratic electorate of what is offered by the free market, same entity actually. Presumably indicating acceptance that these guys are right, apparently not only do they, the leaders, think even their droppings are as ice cream to the multitude, but so do the multitude.

The problem with Islam

Article by David Waters reproduced here March 12, 2006 I wish every Christian in America could have heard what I heard the other night. Two of the nation's most learned and respected religious scholars came to Memphis to talk about Islam and civic responsibility, two topics that don't always seem to go together. Honestly, don't you sometimes wonder -- even the most open-minded and big-hearted among you -- if there's some inherent flaw in Islam? Something in the Koran that turns devoted believers into homicidal maniacs? Something about "Allah" that turns faithful followers of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, into terrorists and suicide bombers and angry mobs?

Happiness,new parameters for economics?

Anyone else interested in ‘doing good’? I suspect there are lots of economic theories chasing confirmation, but one that struck me is Richard Layard use happiness as an economic parameter. From 1940 to around 1979 there was Keynesian economics. Unemployment was considered bad and a trigger for Government action. The provision of welfare was much to the fore following Beveridge and the idea that the common man deserved something, for said some voices, revolt was possible. Then came stagflation with its high unemployment and high interest rates to counter the high inflation. Reason? Many proposed.
