Saddam's Nuclear Program Exposed!

Hey...wait a minute!  You mean Saddam really DID have nuclear ambitions?  Say it ain't so!  While 550 metric tons of yellowcake would make a nice WMD in a dirty bomb, certainly it would need to be refined before it could be used in a nuclear detonation and probably would have been refined under the noses of the UN.  Of course, that threat is now moot now thanks to the Iraq war and removal of a dangerous despot.

Disillusioned religious Iraqis grateful to American liberators

Fascinating article, even more amazing that its found in the NY Times, in which the times author notes Iraqis turning away from the empty future offered by their religious leaders towards a more promising future offered by their American liberators. Note that it is the NY Times that is describing American forces as "liberators" which is a significant change in tone. Could it be the Times recognizes the success of the surge and doesn't want to be caught on the side of the pessimists proclaiming its failure?

The fat lady ain't sung; the Allies can win the Iraq war

Critics of the US led war in Iraq have continually predicted defeat and recently pronounced the US defeated as if it is a foregone conclusion beyond doubt. While expected among "America haters" and defeatest American Democrats, i suggest they all may look foolish if the US surge actually succeeds. Evidence is mounting that new tactics and tribal alliances are having the intended effect. [quote]The Coalition has left the treadmill in which one step of progress seemed to unavoidably lead to two steps back. It requires some time to discover the proper strategy in any war. A cursory glance at 1943 would have given the impression of disaster. Kasserine, in which the German Wehrmacht nearly split Allied forces in Tunisia and sent American GIs running. Tarawa, where over 1,600 U.S. Marines died on a sunny afternoon thanks to U.S. Navy overconfidence. Salerno, where the Allied landing force was very nearly pushed back into the sea. But all these incidents, as bitter as they may have been, were necessary to develop the proper techniques that led to the triumphs of 1944 and 1945.

so you want the help of muslims

so you want the help of muslims .. you want them to condemn the terror attacks .. you want them to? .. maybe the approach that is being used, the neo con pro zionist agenda of blaming islam as the culprit behind the current conflict is a bogus one .. and is in the long term negative towards our overall aims .. maybe it is because it is bogus in those neo con terms , because majority of muslims dont see themselves in a conflict with the west , christianity or israel for that matter .. maybe when the wests media run headlines that condemns all muslims .. as being linked to terror its not surprising that muslims will be alienated, less inclined to step forword , to get involved .. when the whole of the muslim community is being targeted .. and find the general climate one of aggression against them .. that they have to be defensive ..

Comment's on Roger Scruton's Kant & War - Moral Risk

The Case for War Involves Moral Risk, not Moral Certainty Roger Scruton’s lucid description of a Kantian position for war underlines a point I find continually puzzling in Kant’s moral philosophy: when you try to apply Kantian axioms, you end up sounding like a pragmatic consequentialist. This is why we find a number of forecasts near the surface of Roger’s “suppositions”. “Suppose there is hope of planting the seeds of republicanism [by going to war against the despot] …” is one supposition that has great weight in the moral argument. “There is hope …”, in this context, is not really a statement about anyone’s state of mind, but more a statement of what can be counted as reasonable expectations: this is the point at which the Kantian argument becomes consequentialist.

Islam

My congratulations to Mr. Muqtedar Khan for his common sense and moral sense. One of the purposes of religion is to make you better than your enemies not worse. Keep up the good work in your community Mr. Khan!

since sep the 11th people changed their look toward the muslim people?

Since September the 11th people changed the way they treat Muslim people.. I really realised that and I think not because of what happened it means that all Muslim are the same and they don’t have hearts. Believe me they do and they all effected because of the attack. Everyone thinks when you see a Muslim person it means that he/ she are terriers, but no one believes!! Muslim people get a lot of unfair treatment because of those who still don’t believe they don’t have anything to do with what happening? Believe me I am trying to explain the really thing about how most people see Islam!!

why is there always war between people

why does it have to be war between people, why? i dont understand why??? why do children have to suffer everytime, in plastine and iraq, and other places in the world why!! i am just so depressed everytime i see the news about it. i dont know what can i do to make things change, i just can't and i dont know? i am so tried of this things that kept on happing to all the kids in the world. why do they have to suffer because of war?? why? thanx

Muslims after 9/11

Gents, I am disapointed to see that you have lost the path about the issue which is I remind the cultural tensions or/and political oportunities since this very sad day. The presence of muslims is not new and not surprising is nowadays perceived as a threat. Have we already forgoten History and the terrible implications of letting our collective soul be foolished by few politicians which sees Islam as receptacle for the evil. I am chocked to see all this amalgam between a few mad fanatics and millions of people who should have the right to believe in other representations of God. Again this only highlight the very little knowledge or even ignorance about the religions which are not ours. As usual understanding and fraternity only begins when we try to understand the other and as such education should provide a comprehensive review of all key religions existing.

9/11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows

September 23, 2002 President George W. Bush The White House Washington, DC Dear President Bush, Each of us lost a family member on September 11, 2001. We are writing to you now to express our grave concerns about your stated intention to lead our country into a war in Iraq. After what we have endured, no one desires an end to terrorism more than we do. This is why we strongly urge you to pursue diplomatic, multi-lateral and non-violent action to protect the American people from any danger posed by the Iraqi regime. Our group, September Eleventh Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, was formed to

Islamic Worlds article; English grammar

I want to say that this article is very informative and thought-provoking, as are many of the comments on this board. I would, however, offer this suggestion to some of those that have commented on the US and the policies of it's government. If you imply in your statements that you live in the US, and particularly if you are a US citizen, then please take the time to learn the written language official here. We all have our own views, and if we are going to take the time to express those, then a finely articulated statement carries power that can be overlooked in a continuous string of spel

keylaw: Democracy

Bravo! "The two greatest obstacles to democracy in the United States are, first, the widespread delusion among the poor that we have a democracy, and second, the chronic terror among the rich, lest we get it." Edward Dowlings, S.J. May I ask what your educational & professional background is? You are obviously a thoughtful and caring person.

chstar420

Bravo! Well said.

keylaw re: Mohammed and others

I empathize with your profoundly humane, tolerant views, but disagree with you on attributing these qualities to any religion or prophet. "A map will only get you to where others have already been," is a motto I've devised for myself. If God or Allah or any other deity had any hand in creating you, did he/she intend that you be a puppet dancing to his/her strings. Think for yourself! On theevidence of the way you express yourself, you are well qualified to do that.

Democracy - jana questions its existence

Glad to read your challenge/insight. I wonder if it is perhaps the opposite as well -- both that democracy does not exist and that it cannot be entirely eradicated. Just as Light is both wave and particle -- seemingly in a state of contradiction, but useful and even necessary. Even dictators find themselves polling their slaves, desparate for help in making decisions -- a hard job. Whatever doubts one may entertain about having a voice or representation, the real bottom line is whether you live in FEAR of having your own opinion. Once you find you can "post" your beliefs without looking over your shoulder, then perhaps the next step is to participate in an election, and then actually run for office.

Mohammad is Great, and sometimes Ignored

Islam is without doubt or close second one of the Greatest of All Religions. For one thing, it has been delivered to us through one of the finest human beings who ever lived on the cooling floating surfaces of this hot ball, the Prophet Mohammad. Unfortunately, not everyone pays heed to the fundamental message of tolerance so poetically expressed in the Koran. What is the great lesson here? Is there any message of grace that cannot be distorted by a fanatic thug into a rationale for seizing someone else's stuff? I for one am thankful that at least Mohammad had the courage to be INTOLERANT of one thing: INTOLERANCE. He recognized that there are times you have to take a sword to power, and overthrow the thugs who oppress others. All of us act "in God's name", but what God/Allah/Divine acts in the name of some human who puts his image up in giant posters?

Kevin bias

"Regrettably this debate raises its head so frequently, Israel may well appear to be many of the things mentioned, (a western incursion) but I am surprised not to read of the many other facets that went into the reasons for the creation of this nation -and indeed makes up this people, for example no account is ever made of a people whom happen to believe passionately in their own history and heritage, a claim that has led them for thousands of years from all over the globe 'back to the land of their ancestor's. ... Many of whom have in living memory witnessed the horrors of the holocaust.
