Forums disrupted
Dear all,
Please accept our apologies that the forums are currently being disrupted by vandalism. We are working to fix the situation. For now, you can access all current discussions you are involved in using your member pages. Many thanks for your patience.
Best wishes,

Re: Forums disrupted
I'll say they have been disrupted. One hopes it wont take you as long to sort the problem as it has done to sort the bug in the system. I doubt we all have that long to live.
Re: Forums disrupted
Thanks for the encouragement Owly ;)

Re: Forums disrupted
Jessica,
Update?
Is this the doing of Lendman and Solve or is someone else using them?
Re: Forums disrupted
Hi all,
Yesterday a member pulled old threads back up on the main page, posting "..." as new messages in order to turn the forums upside down.
The moderation team deleted said messages, but sadly the natural order of the threads has been disrupted. Like I mentionned yesterday, you can still find the threads you were posting in before the accident by accessing them on your individual member page.
We're really sorry for the inconvenience.
Best,
Jessica
Re: Forums disrupted
Jessica,
It doesn't seem to me that anything substative has been done. Things are still mucked up, and it seems to be happening again.
We would appreciate updates from time to time, but accompanying it genuine accomplishment would also be appreciated.
Re: Forums disrupted
Dear all,
Some more information for those interested: we have banned the forum member in question when the first disruptions happened.
However as you may know, a banning is effective on one IP address. Unfortunately if a troll decides to log in from another computer and create another bogus account to post here, he can. Which is apparently what happened yesterday night.
I am very, very sorry for the ongoing inconvenience.
Jessica.
Re: Forums disrupted
Dear Jessica,
One possible solution is to change the registration process so that you can confirm the users identity (to a degree). If it were not automated it might prevent acts of vandalism such as we have seen. You could also delay a persons ability to immediately post in anger by informing them that their login password will be sent to them by email the next day. A cool down period that also prevents internet cafe registrations. Unfortunately most IPs are non static so you can never block someone that way, all he need do is reboot his modem.
Cheers,
Good luck with the crackpot
Brendan
