Re: Images of War they dont want us to see!
Solve,
Thank you very much for the link - some very powerful and disturbing images of (I'd like to think) some extra-ordinary people.
I'd like to bring to your attention a great photojournalism book, published last year by a close friend of mine: Purple Hearts: Back from Iraq, by Nina Berman - your link reminded me of this book.
Re: Images of War they dont want us to see!
Hi Solve,
Pictures are quite disturbing!!!!! Thank you for sharing.
Re: Images of War they dont want us to see!
It reminds me of a quote from the first gulf war.
If we let people see that kind of thing, there would never again be any war.
Senior Pentagon official on reasons why United States military censored footage showing Iraqi soldiers sliced in two by U.S. helicopter fire
Are there any figures for how many US troops have lost limbs? I read that modern body armor is so good that soldiers are surviving blasts that would previously have killed them. The drawback is that the unprotected arms and legs get blown off.
Re: Images of War they dont want us to see!
Another video they don't want you to see!!
(They, in this case, are the scumbag terrorists and their scumbag defenders in the West.)

Re: Images of War they dont want us to see!
henry,
That was a dumb move by the guy with the RPG - If you run in the middle of the road and try to line-up an RPG towards Western force's, you should, by rights, end up like that dude in the film.
Re: Images of War they dont want us to see!
I believe his training should have been more thorough.
Re: Images of War they dont want us to see!
henry,
"I believe his training should have been more thorough."
Indeed, I would have thought the first rule when engaging the enemy in a gun-fight would be... er, take cover?
Re: Images of War they dont want us to see!
The guy in the video needed more than training, he need good eyesight and brains! He did not see the gunman next to him!
The shots come from a close distance (10-20m) judging by the angle of projection and accuracy of hitting the same proximity. It is very hard to shoot from a long distance with an automatic rifle and get all the shots in a close proximity of each other.
Re: Images of War they dont want us to see!
That was fricken hilarious Henry, but next time I hope they get a better close up on the 'dudes' head as the bullet pierces then exits it, get some of that blood splattering action going...ya know what I mean? Just like in the movies. Reminds me when they were dragging that 'dude' through the streets in...where was it, Ethopia? Whatever, or when they were roasting those dudes back over there in Iraq some time back. For those of you like me who can't get enough of this shit there are a few web sites with clips and pictures of mangled civilians, some of them children, (oops...wrong place at the wrong time I suppose) that you should check out. Maybe we can even post some of them here and get even more witty comments on the humorous side of war.
Great stuff! Keep them coming guys.
Re: Images of War they dont want us to see!
Is Chris attempting sarcasm?
Re: Images of War they dont want us to see!
I think "attempting" is a charitable description.
Also, not sure why I merit his opprobrium -- apparently showing a terrorist getting killed is worse than showing wounded and killed soldiers and civilians. But perhaps I'm misreading him.

Re: Images of War they dont want us to see!
Henry,
Maybe I just find it easier to understand and tolerate why people with no real experience of war are able to joke about it. But then maybe I'm the messed up one for still believing that some things still demand a measure of respect.
Re: Images of War they dont want us to see!
Ah, I see. It's better to feign sympathy over dead and wounded civilians and soldiers than it is to show satisfaction at similar footage of an enemy going to Allah. Important politically correct point -- thanks for the posturing, smug sermonizing.

Re: Images of War they dont want us to see!
Henry,
Hardly politically correct, and in fact quite the opposite is true, if you are unable to understand that distinction then I misjudged you. As for the feigning sympathy over dead and wounded civilians and soldiers, I entirely agree, still dosen't change how I view the later.
