Quote of the day

The sudden assertion of human criteria within a dehumanising framework of political manipulation can be like a flash of lightning illuminating a dark landscape

Dear Kiumars, I just wanted to say that the people that are dying and getting wounded in this conflict are not the guilty parties. There is no reason for your enthuiasm. Sadly, this is the result of a leadership's lack of respect for human lives. Something I think that you too are demonstrating with your farse. When someone elses opinions (like Bush's, Blair's or mine) is by some strange logic worth someone elses lives then we have step onto the path of utter danger. You seem to cheer for the death of Americans and that they are worthy of their faith because of your opinions of the situation - but they are not. You have more in common with Bush then you dear to admite. //Christian

Billy, the US can handle that, for countless more years, without much protest or weariness. That is a lie. There are quite a few that don't think a single American life is worth the trouble. Sure that in theory that the US can handle 1000 deaths / year... I remembered a post i did quite some time ago when I compared the estimated mortality of drug overdoses in the US and found out that according to the FBI it was just as a 11/9 every year. I know it is an aweful comparison but it tells something about us as humans. Somehow some people's pointless deaths are easier to shake off our radar. The soldiers in Iraq is a different matter all together. But just to make it intresting... how many American lives/year have to get lost in Iraq to break the US? And how many Iraqis lives is it worth? Two simple questions. //Christian

Ask the American people.... According to the mid-election result 1000/year seemed to be the number. But since the closest thing to the American people I can get is you guys here on OD so don't be shy Billy and give us a number. Or two. //Christian

Re: Iraq war Casualties
what about 15000 deaths... all the world has been told 25000 wounded an more than 3000 deaths... but there are 50 attacks with bomd against USA a DAY (acording to CNN international)they have to make the numbers look "reasonable", most of those soldiers are daying week afther the attack, so don`t care about the number.. example of a little casuality you say 3020, the MSN page says 3063, but the army says 30 less than taht (3033)... so who knowa who is telling the truth... every people has they own truth based on his reality (on what he or she sees, hears and lives)... think about it. bye

I suspect that the American people's problem with the casualties is less a function of the numbers involved than of the perception that no useful purpose is being accomplished by the fighting.
