He comes across very well in the interview. I am always struck by the seeming moral power of those who have undergone such inhumane treatment and come out as real and vital human beings - look at the example of Brian Keenan too... This is in great contrast to those who dispense violence on others from a postition of ignorance or lack of compassion as to its effects and reality.
What's more his perspective on the American guards at Guantanemo Bay just reinforces my hope that what ordinary people share across cultural boundaries will in the long term prove stronger than the will of those in power and outside it who want promote hatred, fear and division and to impose some ideology or other, whether they be Islamist terrorists, Bushite capitalists, or whatever. . .
