while we all focus on what is wrong with the middle east and how they are in need of western solutions, I was wondering if anyone here thought there was something about the middle east that didn't need to be changed.
is there anything that we respect about middle eastern culture?

Candace
how r u ? yes still their are many things are good in ME culture and really Iam afraid that it will change or try to imitate the west in it.
By the way , now watching a program about the miserable life palestininains are living in refugees in lebanon and the TV caleed Al resala (the message ), as today is the anneversary of 40 years of suffer from 1976. Really I dont beleive that where are the rich people and the people are responsible for their suffer. They are living sorry to say in a condition as less than animals.
sorry candace, I dont like to say the bad things happen, but the good in the ME is daily changed, but still their is the strong family bonds , still we are close to each other, still gather and eat together. Still even when sons married, still sometimes living with their parents. I hope generosity and hospitality to all foreigners would be the same and not changed.
Also still relegion and good morals are their, still even the respect of women is much, but others interpret it as stealing their wrights. No most women in ME are not rejecting their situation.
The weather is also nice not much cold, and even when their is sun, their is nice weather. I think we are middle in everything . ME the place where 3 relegions revealed (palestine). There are many resources . you know what need to be changed, only the mentality of some people need to be changed. Most of people are on their pure innate, but of course their are some bad people.
I think ME would remain for a long time an inspiration to all. really our culture is nice and it is according to logic and I think ME people are generally conservatives.

Yes--the cuisine and architecture. I always enjoyed both immensely during my visits. You can have the rest.

Re: oasis
For starters
The sincere hospitality offered to total strangers, Sufism, Khalil Gibran, the wine, the food, the climate, the music, the sense of community in small villages and cities, the Levant coastline, the beautiful city of Damascus, Petra, music by Mercan Dede (check it out on YouTube) writing by Rafik Schami, Abbas Beydoun, Elias Khoury, Nada Awar Jarrar...
The many many interesting bloggers, such as this one:

Hello Mrs.Abdulksaida,
I am doing very well, thank-you. I managed to find a dance studio that I could afford classes at. I didnt think was possible..
How are things going for you?

I can probably guess, but I would rather ask you what you were afraid of changing to imitate the west.
I think western and middle eastern culture is so different that both sides are afraid of this clash resulting in their way of life being altered. I don't see it that way, but a lot of people do.

hello candace
1- good to hear from u, are u the one who teach the music in u classes ? I hope u good times.
2- yes , I think we are more in the ME who is afraid that the life of youth and children will be altered, eventhough frankly their are many stops to it, I mean we admire the technology, education , working hard in the science and progressive invents, but afraid of the young people and children to adopt and sorry to say the same life of the west as free relations without marriage, even though that is less and if it happens it is secreley done.
3- I dont know as I think ME have to had and possess a special taste and to be different in its lifestyle. I think u are candace smart and know what Iam meaning . globalization is good, if it keeps basic morals alive and justice to all. you also know the family relation here is strong much, and when we see any defect , directly they will say and blame those people that they are imitate the bad side of relations between sons and parents, as in our culture never a son or daughter will leave the parents home, untill he is married, and sometimes living at the same home with his wives and children if the home is big. We like of course to have the good character and try to have the capacity to differentiate between what we have to accept from the west and what to refuse according also to our relegion, which really and frankly we cant ignore . thanks
