Background to the appointment
openDemocracy is expanding its business and administration team following the appointment of a new Editor-in-Chief. In order to support the new EIC, openDemocracy wishes to appoint an experienced administrator who will manage day to day company organisation, including bookkeeping and financial management. The role is full time and based in London, in our offices in Dalston.
Overview of the role
To provide administrative support to the Editor-in-Chief and Finance Directors, particularly in the area of finance and fundraising and to be responsible for organising the day-to-day running of openDemocracy.
Responsibilities of the role
To provide assistance for the Editor in Chief & Finance Directors. To participate and support the Management group & board meetings, and work closely with other members of business team.
To administer office matters, rental agreements, meeting room space, post & telephone arrangements. To act as the main coordinator for the arrangement of company meetings To provides support for Board, Management Group & Editorial meetings.
- operational relations with accountant and auditor
- monthly bookkeeping & payments in conjunction with accountants
- banking arrangements
- company administration matters (Companies House, Information Commissioner, employer insurance and other obligations)
Fundraising & projects
To manage grant administration & support, including project budgets & balancesPersonnel To manages personnel administration, payroll and contracts.
Educated to degree level or equivalent
Proven relevant administrative experience with outstanding organisational skills
Proven numeracy skills and experience of working with budgets and producing financial reports for managers
High degree of computer literacy including databases and Excel, maintenance and development of online resources such as calendars
Experience in organising and co-ordinating meetings and company events
Excellent writing skills including the ability to draft documents quickly and accurately and to edit other copy appropriately
Ability to prioritise as necessary, work accurately and independently under pressure, and to work reliably and flexibly as part of a team;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
Experience of working in an international environment.
Experience of working in the university, charity/NGO, media or publishing sectors.
