Still waiting for justice
After the images of Saddam's hanging are broadcast across the world, mine, like many Iraqi families who have lost loved ones to the Saddam regime, are still waiting for justice. The justice we have been waiting for is the sight of an Iraq void of the remnants of the Saddam regime. And yet, Saddam's very executioners would turn into equally terrible monsters at the slightest chance. That was only too evident in their lack of humanity.
One more thing - the reporting of "sectarian" violence and "Sunni grief" at the execution is terrible. Awful. And anyone who falls for it is a fool. Iraqis lived together for centuries without killing each other, married across sects and worked together. This reporting, fuelled by the BBC, gives the perfect excuse for failure - once released from the iron fist, Iraqis took the first opportunity to kill each other, Sunnis versus Shiites. It is rubbish reporting that has become "truth" and taken as fact, without anyone questioning why, then, there are bombings in mixed areas and who is fuelling the sectarian identity. Please stop! openDemocracy should know better.

Re: Still waiting for justice
Great post.
I hope the media doesn't drive the UK and US to despair.
Iraqis need our help, and we owe it to them to help support their new government given that we destroyed the previous regime.
Americans are on your side!
