I don't see the Beatles as representative of ethical or moral decline. They are purveyers of popular music and were talented and successful in their venture. Christoph Von Dohnanyi is a orchestral conductor and is, presumably, very good at what he does. I would not deny that there is more esoteric complication and depth in most classical music than in most popular music, and as such it is appreciated by fewer people. "Importance" given to one or the other is complex; The Beatles had more impact on more people in the last 50 years but maybe Christoph Von Dohnanyi's work will emerge as something of importance to music later. It is hard to say. Who you like is up to to you entirely. It matters not a jot what other people think.
