Aubrey Meyer argues today that US governments have been [right](http://www.opendemocracy.net/debates/article-6-129-2462.jsp) to reject the Kyoto Protocol.

A lot of people don't agree with him. We'll be hearing from some of them soon.

Either way, the question of what kind of global agreement to contain emissions - if any - comes after Kyoto (which runs until 2012) is increasingly in the minds of politicians and others.

Aubrey argues that the 1998 Byrd Hagel resolution in the US Senate actually opens the way for contraction and convergence as the most radical and equitable global solution to the challenge of climate change.
