# Guardian behind openDemocracy, as usual

Today's *Guardian* follows five days behind the 28 April edition of openDemocracy in publishing Aubrey Mayer on urgency of political action on climate change (see [here](http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/story/0,3604,1474683,00.html?ref=opendemocracy.net)).

In his *Guardian* essay, Aubrey Meyer calls on Tony Blair to act, but in his [first piece](http://www.opendemocracy.net/debates/article-6-129-2462.jsp), published on openDemocracy, Aubrey Meyer appeals to the logic of a far higher power: the US Senate. The latter's Byrd-Hagel resolution, Aubrey Meyer argues, leads will-he, nill-he, to contraction and convergence.

But, writing in the openDemocracy [forum](http://www.opendemocracy.net/forums/thread.jspa?forumID=179&threadID=44243&tstart=0), Benito Mueller warns against chosing strange bedfellows (see [here](http://www.opendemocracy.net/debates/article-6-129-252.jsp) for a previous Mueller intervention on openDemocracy).

Yesterday, the main editorial in *The Observer* (the *Guardian's* sister paper) argued that the politics of climate change is one of the most important issues facing the international community (see [here](http://society.guardian.co.uk/environment/comment/0,14125,1474437,00.html?ref=opendemocracy.net)). Much of the editorial follows quite closely the arguments in a [21 April post](http://www.opendemocracy.net/blogs/page/climateChange/20050421#hot%5Fpolitics%5Fintroduction%5Fto%5Fa) in this blog.

The Guardian also features the Green MEP [Caroline Lucas](http://politics.guardian.co.uk/election/comment/0,15803,1474744,00.html?ref=opendemocracy.net) ("the Green party doesn't expect to form the government on May 6", she writes. Oh, really?).
