Want to know the safest/freest, most dangerous/repressive place to practice journalism? *Reporters Sans Frontier* today published its annual worldwide press freedom [report](http://davaotoday.com/2006/10/24/new-press-freedom-index-puts-rp-among-worlds-worst/?ref=opendemocracy.net). The report detailing press/state relationships in 168 countries showed an 'alarming' erosion of press freedom in the [US](http://www.opendemocracy.netopenblogs/blog/media/information%5F4027.jsp?ref=opendemocracy.net), France and Japan in the last year. The US fell 9 places to 53rd, France fell 5 to 36th and Japan 14 to 51st. **The five most repressive states were the same as last year: North Korea, Turkmenistan, Eritrea, Cuba and Myanmar. And** Finland, Iceland, Ireland and the Netherlands are the most media-friendly. Check out the [map](http://www.rsf.org/IMG/pdf/report.pdf?ref=opendemocracy.net) of press freedoms out for an overview.
