Seeing as Richard Branson yesterday [pledged](http://environment.guardian.co.uk/climatechange/story/0,,1878492,00.html?ref=opendemocracy.net) a predicted $3bn dollars of profits from his air and rail interests over the next 10 years towards investment in new environmentally-friendly biofuel businesses, will George Monbiot take Mr Branson off his '[greenwash](http://www.turnuptheheat.org/?page%5Fid=4&ref=opendemocracy.net)' list? Not likely. Firstly, according to [George](http://www.turnuptheheat.org/?page%5Fid=15&ref=opendemocracy.net) and many in the [environmental lobby](http://www.foe.co.uk/resource/press%5Freleases/branson%5Fclimate%5Finitiative%5F21092006.html?ref=opendemocracy.net), Richard's airline interests (not to mention his plans to expand into [space](http://www.virgingalactic.com/en/?ref=opendemocracy.net)) will still massively contribute towards global warming. Secondly, can the environmental lobby grit its teeth and endorse an initiative which seems to arise out of Mr Branson's desire to make [even more](http://business.timesonline.co.uk/section/0,,20589,00.html?ref=opendemocracy.net) profits? Finally, the effects of large-scale production of biofuels on the planet's biodiversity [aren't](http://www.marklynas.org/wind?bloggin=305&b%5Fsortorder=desc&b%5Fsortby=date&b%5Fstartat=60&b%5Fstep=10&ref=opendemocracy.net) without [controversy](http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=mg18825265.400&feedId=online-news%5Frss20&ref=opendemocracy.net).
