**By Jessica Reed**

I recently [posted](2006/09/12/I-want-to-believe.html) about the US media and its docility in regards to the US government. I am glad to say that I stand corrected. Yesterday 'englishman' posted [this link](http://video.msn.com/v/us/fv/msnbc/fv.htm??g=6ab03f03-7a66-4378-8443-ef3afe82bab8&f=00&fg=copy&ref=opendemocracy.net) on openDemocracy's [forums](../../../forums/thread.jspa?forumID=87&threadID=47231&tstart=0). It is a video of MSNBC's Countdown host Keith Olbermann overtly blames G.W.Bush for "spinning" 9/11\. Highly critical of the current administration (that's an understatement), he virulently accuses the President of being a despot in charge of a team which is buying off columnists and keeps on making -largely unfulfilled- promises while taking great (political, financial) advantage of 9/11.

The full transcript of Olbermann's own 'J'accuse' can be read [on his blog](http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14687895/?ref=opendemocracy.net#060911a):

*Half the time, in fact, this President has been so gently treated, that he has seemed not even to be the man most responsible for anything in his own administration.*

Yet what is happening this very night? A mini-series, created, influenced -- possibly financed by -- the most radical and cold of domestic political Machiavellis, continues to be televised into our homes.

The documented truths of the last fifteen years are replaced by bald-faced lies; the talking points of the current regime parroted; the whole sorry story blurred, by spin, to make the party out of office seem vacillating and impotent, and the party in office, seem like the only option.
