# In light of Bush's 'surge' speech yesterday

My favourite quote goes to Tony Snow, who last tuesday said [during his press briefing](http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/01/20070109-2.html?ref=opendemocracy.net):

*As far as public opinion, the President will not shape policy according to public opinion, but he does understand that it's important to bring the public back to this war and restore public confidence and support for the mission.*

I'm sure American voters are delighted.
