This logo will represent Europe for the celebrations of the [Treaty of Rome](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty%5Fof%5FRome?ref=opendemocracy.net) next year, and should 10 soon be recognised all over Europe. It is the outcome of a cross-national [competition](http://www.logo-competition.eu/69.0.html?ref=opendemocracy.net) throughout Europe which involved many students from different countries. You can see the top 10 submissions [here](http://www.logo-competition.eu/65.0.html?ref=opendemocracy.net), and the three winning submissions [here](http://www.logo-competition.eu/67.0.html?ref=opendemocracy.net).

This competition is in line with the idea I discussed earlier today in the [Local Democracy blog entry](../../../?permalink=Think-big-act-locally-it-is-Democracy-Week.html&smm=y): it is another effort to get youth involved in the European political and cultural process. *De facto* it is also linked to the [European Citizens Consultations](http://www.european-citizens-consultations.eu/14.0.html?ref=opendemocracy.net), which [we blogged](../../..//?month=10&day=7&year=2006).

In line with the Commissions Plan D (Democracy, Debate, Dialogue) this logo gives a graphic interpretation to the voice of all Europeans, especially the new generations.

The idea for this competition seems really nice and I am sure the winner, Polish student Szymon Skrzypczak, is thrilled at the idea of seeing his work extensively displayed in 25 countries. I just hope that the European youth will find a way to get involved and [make its voice heard](http://www.unicef.org/polls/cee/index.html?ref=opendemocracy.net) within the European project in the long run, and not just on the occasion of a competition...
