# Who governs the net?

Hold the frontpage - the US and the EU can't agree [who should run the Internet](http://www.iht.com/articles/2005/09/29/business/net.php?ref=opendemocracy.net). Perhaps they should take a leaf out of [Bill Thompson'](http://www.opendemocracy.net/globalization-accountability/cyberspace%5F2832.jsp)s book (or should that be a module out of his database?) and let the people do it. Whatever happens, it willl make November's [WSIS](http://www.opendemocracy.net/media-edemocracy/article%5F1630.jsp) conference all the more crucial. As both Bill and[ Andrew Chadwick](http://www.andrewchadwick.com/archives/2005/09/entry%5F21.html?ref=opendemocracy.net) note, these divisions have been rumbling along in the background for some time.
