Turkish journalist [Murat Belge](https://www.opendemocracy.net/author/Murat%5FBelge.jsp) and four of his colleagues face ridiculous [prison sentences](http://www.rsf.org/article.php3?id%5Farticle=15839&ref=opendemocracy.net) of 6 months to 10 years for criticising an official ban on a conference about the [Armenian question](https://www.opendemocracy.net/democracy-turkey/armenia%5F2920.jsp). Ironically, the last thing Murat Belge wrote for us was about [Orhan Pamuk](https://www.opendemocracy.net/arts-turkey/orhan%5Fpamuk%5F2935.jsp), the renowned Turkish writer, who himself was charged this year for "publicly humiliating" Turkey under [Article 301](https://www.opendemocracy.net/democracy-turkey/armenia%5F2920.jsp) of the Turkish penal code. Belge's case will appear Istanbul magistrates court on 7 February.
