# Release Akbar Ganji appeal

The human rights activist and outspoken Iranian government critic [Akbar Ganji](http://akbarganji.net/?ref=opendemocracy.net) is serving his fourth month in Tehran's notorious [Evin Prison](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evin%5FPrison?ref=opendemocracy.net). He is serving a six year [sentence](http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle%5Feast/4083890.stm?ref=opendemocracy.net) for his investigative journalism exposing the government's involvement in the murder of dissidents.

For refusing to recant these writings, and for his continuation in promoting human rights, Mr Ganji is being held in terrible prison conditions with insufficiant food and medicine, in violation of international human right [standards](http://hrw.org/prisons/standards.html?ref=opendemocracy.net).
