# Peace Pays

"The UK is the third largest military spender in the world and almost 10% of the taxes we pay go the military. Out of a budget of over £33billion, only 3% spent is on conflict prevention and resolution."  
The [£4.17billion](http://www.iraqanalysis.org/press/385?ref=opendemocracy.net) that has our government has spent on the war in Iraq seems a highly dubious investment in our [security](../../../conflict/london%5F2659.jsp).
