Before the election, [deUgarte](http://www.deugarte.com/la-semana-50-en-5-posts?ref=opendemocracy.net) complains that oD's article by [Nick Buxton on Evo Morales](https://www.opendemocracy.net/democracy-protest/bolivia%5F3131.jsp) is typical of a "European myopic vision" that "fails to see a charismatic, nationalistic, racist, populist leader as a danger". [Buxton says](http://www.nickbuxton.info/bolivia/2005/12/what%5Fif%5Fevo%5Fwin.html?ref=opendemocracy.net) he wrote the article to counter exaggerated US press representations of the Bolivian presidential candidate as a future "narco-communist dictator". The LA Times this morning reports [a win for Morales](http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-bolivia19dec19,0,4927055.story?coll=la-story-footer&track=morenews&ref=opendemocracy.net). He needed 50% to win, and "[quick counts](http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/world/3533841.html?ref=opendemocracy.net)" so far indicate he has 51%.
