# Chinese police fire on crowd

[Amnesty International](http://www.amnesty.org/?ref=opendemocracy.net) is reporting that four people were killed in the village of Dongzhou, in [Guangdong Province](https://www.opendemocracy.net/openblogs/blog/od/www.maps-of-china.com/guangdong-s-ow.shtml), when Chinese police fired on a crowd of protesters on Tuesday evening. A dispute over the appropriation of land for a [wind power plant](http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4507130.stm?ref=opendemocracy.net) has been rumbling for five months and, according the AI report, villagers had gathered to protest the detention of three village representatives when the incident occurred.
