Akmal Ahmed Safwat is a consultant and Associate Professor of Clinical Oncology in Aarhus University Hospitals, Denmark. He emigrated from Egypt to Denmark in 2000. In 2006, Dr. Safwat joined forces with progressive minded Muslims to form Demokratiske Muslimer i Danmark in order to counter the influence of imams who practice a traditional, conservative Islam.
