Annika Rabo is a professor in the department of social anthropology at Stockholm University. She has conducted fieldwork in the Middle East since the late 1970s, mainly in Syria, focusing on a variety of topics related to state-citizens relationships. She has published extensively on Syria and a copy of her 2005 book A Shop of One's Own: Independence and Reputation among Traders in Aleppo is available online.
