Ariel Dorfman was cultural adviser to the chief of staff of Chilean president Salvador Allende in 1973. He is the author of the play 'Death and the Maiden', the novels 'Cautivos' and 'The Compensation Bureau', the memoir 'Feeding On Dreams'. He is the Walter Hines Page Professor of Literature and Latin American Studies at Duke University, in Durham, North Carolina.
