Rachel Johnson is a historian with research interests in gender, political cultures and cultural politics, human rights and Southern Africa, and currently a Research Associate on the European Research Council funded project Understanding Institutional Change: A Gender Perspective. Her doctorate in history was gained from the University of Sheffield in 2010 for her thesis titled, ‘Making History, Gendering Youth: Young Women in South Africa’s Liberation Struggles from 1976’.
