Giuliano Amato was Italian Prime Minister between 1992-1993 and again 2000-2001; he has been Minister of the Economy four times. He was Vice-president of the Convention on the Future of Europe (2001-03) that drafted the Lisbon Treaty. A former deputy-secretary of the Socialist Party, he has now joined Italy’s Democratic Party.
