Hielke Hijmans is special advisor to the European Data Protection Supervisor. He recently graduated as a doctor in law at the University of Amsterdam and the Vrije Universiteit Brussels, with a thesis on the EU as a guardian of internet privacy – this contribution is based on his thesis.
