Jan Macháček is a Czech columnist. He is chairman of the board of the Prague-based think tank the Institute for Politics and Society. He was a dissident and Charta 77 signatory, was chairman of Vaclav Havel Library and teaches at NYU Prague, and UP Olomouc. He was a guitarist for the underground rock band, The Plastic People.
