Jane McAlevey worked as an organizer in the labor and environmental justice movements for two decades. She also lived and worked at the Highlander Center in her early 20s. She is currently processing these experiences as a Ph.D. candidate at the CUNY Graduate Center. She regularly contributes to The Nation magazine, which chose her book, Raising Expectations and Raising Hell (Verso), as the “most valuable book of 2012.”
