Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala is the first Sri Lankan to summit Mount Everest. She was appointed a goodwill ambassador for women's rights by the Ministry of Women's Affairs in Sri Lanka. Jayanthi holds a master’s degree in gender studies from the University of Sussex, UK.
