John McHugo is an Arabist and historian, with decades’ worth of experience in the Middle East. He is a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Syrian Studies at St Andrews, and a board member of the Council for Arab-British Understanding. His latest book is A Concise History of Sunnis and Shi’is (Saqi, 2019).
