Dr Laura Piacentini is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Strathclyde Law School, University of Strathclyde. Her work focuses on how Russian prisons have adapted to the collapse of the Soviet Union. Her first book, Surviving Russian Prisons  (2004) won the British Society of Criminology Book of the Year award in 2005.
